In-app clinic lets Ontario staff avoid public waitlists for licensed video therapy
Ontario employees with coverage from Alan can now access licensed talk therapy inside their insurance app instead of waiting in the public system.
Alan has launched Alan Clinic, an in-app mental health support service for its Ontario members.
Eligible users can book and attend secure video sessions with licensed mental health professionals, with scheduling and payment handled inside the Alan app.
The press release said mental health access often sits across multiple providers, platforms, and reimbursement processes, which can make early access to care difficult.
Alan Clinic places talk therapy within the existing insurance journey rather than in a separate system.
Mark Goad, general manager at Alan Canada, said insurance and care have long operated in “separate silos.” He said Alan Clinic combines them to “simplif[y] access to mental health support for members,” while keeping clinical care and insurance data separate.
The service launches in Ontario with licensed psychotherapists providing talk therapy through secure video sessions. It does not provide diagnosis or prescribing.
When care needs go beyond talk therapy, therapists refer members to appropriate public or private resources.
Therapists receive ongoing clinical supervision, structured performance reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days, and participate in a global peer consultation network led by clinical experts.
The press release said that Alan Clinic is built on what the company describes as military-grade security.
All therapy sessions are end-to-end encrypted and are not recorded.
Clinical notes are stored on Canadian servers accessible only to clinicians. Alan, as the insurer, has no access to session content, and employers do not receive identifiable health information.
Mental health is the first area of care offered through Alan Clinic and marks the start of Alan’s approach to integrating care services into the insurance experience in Canada.
